The game shines brightest when it’s focusing on those elements, with a plethora of well-written and voiced dialogue trees that Even can engage in throughout the adventure with a sizable cast of fittingly bizarre characters. It’s a story that’s easy and fun to get behind, just as Even and her new friend Dicey are great protagonists to root for. This unfolds in a rather well-done opening cutscene that sets everything up perfectly. Who Even then spends the game trying to rescue, working her way up from the town of “oners” all the way up to the bourgeois “sixers”, which is of course where Odd was taken after rolling a six with the queen. As they learn, an official roll of a die can completely change the trajectory of your life, which is exactly what happens to Odd, Even’s sister. The focus of the story are two sisters Even and Odd. While it’s small handful of slip-ups might be hard to ignore, Lost in Random still delivers a fascinating tale in a bewitching world that shouldn’t be missed by fans of such things.ĭespite randomness being at the center of this world there is actually a very strict order that everyone must adhere to that divides everyone up into classes that live in different districts based on the numbers 1 through 6. So much so that I was almost able to overlook the repetition and small handful of rough edges that crept into the experience a little more often that I would’ve liked. I‘ve got to admit, I was quite taken with Lost in Random‘s art style, music, and setting from the jump.

So stop by your local Dunn Edwards store and pick up a sample. Here are a few more rooms in my house for you to see how this true gray color looks with other decor and accent colors. You guys, I am serious about this, you can’t go wrong with this gray paint color. Since we’ve painted the interior of our house, my sister bought this color for her rental property and my cousin is painting her entire home in Miners Dust this weekend. But once we turned the loft into a Teen Hangout, I couldn’t be happier with the color. When we first moved in our loft was empty and I was a little concerned how the gray color would look once we furnished the room. In fact, one day while I was sitting in my Office, the superintendent over the construction of our new neighborhood stopped by after our house was painted and he loved this color SO much! He said he has seen a lot of gray houses lately but this was the nicest color of them all! He told me just last week he ended up painting his entire home this same color and he has recommended it to several new home owners in our neighborhood. Both rooms have the prettiest light gray walls you ever did see, the only difference being it looks slightly darker or lighter and neither has a blue or pink undertone! (YAY!) Our Family Room has 4 BIG windows and it gets a ton of natural light, but our laundry room is tiny and only has 1 little window. We have this color on every wall in our home and the lighting varies from room to room. (I just LOVE the way this gray pops against all our white trim!) We get compliments on the color of our walls all of the time and I am so quick to brag about this perfect gray color, just as a parent would brag about their own child. Is it possible to LOVE paint like a member of your family?! Because that’s kinda how I feel about this gray paint color! We ordered the grey color the sales lady first suggested and ordered 45 gallons of Dunn Edwards Miners Dust paint so there was no turning back!!! Best Gray Paint ColorsĪfter about a week of staring at these colors and stressing over making the right choice, we ended up biting the bullet. Still, I left the store with 3 swatches and 3 small paint samples, just to be safe. This lady knew her stuff, and it was weird how much I trusted her and valued her opinion. She warned me to be careful of those because they could potentially pick up colors outside of the “true gray” color I was going for. I asked her about a couple other gray swatches that caught my eye, but she quickly pointed out the blue or green undertones in each of those gray paint colors. I think the beige keeps it neutral so you won’t see any blue or purple. Her: It has a beige-look, but it isn’t beige at all on the walls. Me: That looks more beige than I was thinking. I’ve never heard a single complaint about it, and it looks really pretty on every wall.” “This is a super popular color that stays a true grey, no matter the lighting. “Ok, here you go” she said, and she handed me this paint chip sample in less than 4 seconds. “I need a true light gray paint that will look good on every wall in my home.” The nice sales lady must have sensed how OVERWHELMED I was, so she kindly asked if I needed any help. When I finally decided to tackle the task of choosing a paint color, I walked into the Dunn Edwards paint store and headed straight to the paint chip samples. I’ve heard (and seen) plenty of horror stories of friends who finally decide on a nice neutral light gray color, only to end up with walls that are too purple, too blue or just too dark.Īnd some of these people chose their color after seeing it and LOVING it in their neighbor’s home – so they thought it was “safe.” But the amount of natural light in each home can vary so much, that even the exact same color, finish and brand of paint could look totally different from one house to the next. I’ll be honest, choosing a gray paint scared me. (We have 5 kids, so flat paint was not happening!) I recently discovered the best gray paint for the walls of my home and I can’t wait to tell you all about it! If you’re struggling to find a true gray paint without any undertones, this post is for you!Īs anxious as we were to move right in to our new home, we pushed back our move date so we could have the entire home painted from flat white that our builder included, to a light gray egg shell paint that would be prettier on the walls and easier to clean. It is easy to pack up beside a film point and shoot for a small trip. I want photography to be enjoyable, or why the shit else would I do it? It feels fun, and quite honestly my dSLRs no longer ‘feel fun’ like they did when I was 20 years old. Nobody seems to care about my ‘little vintage camera’. The camera is quiet and discreet, affording me less attention while I point it around. It gets out of the way when I jump on my bike to head around town, or go hangout at a park with friends, or I want to clear my head from work and go photograph whatever my neighbourhood is up to (see below). This fucking camera excels in all the other ways: That seems like sharp negatives for an xPRO3 review, but it isn’t. Yes, I know that lots of adventurous photographers do the same thing with Fujis. The weight difference and packing size is negligible for that security. My dSLRs come with me when we plan a trip to hike the mountains in Wales, or in the bush of Newfoundland and I need to know that if I drop the camera it will survive, or that two batteries could last me three days. Frankly, it is a long story and I won’t bother you, but the punchline is that I actually still use dSLRs quite a lot, but pretty much never for any day-to-day, pick up the camera and run out the door with friends situations. I first wrote out this section with a backstory into how I fell into photography. First question: How does my dSLR feel about being shelved while I photograph on this smaller mirrorless camera?.It is only four questions, but I have a lot of feeeeeeelings. There are more important questions than the same 5 being passed around YouTube. Not the most traditional questions, ever, but this is my review and I can do what I want. What to do when you feel inspired to pixel-peep? Other exercises to do now that you aren’t lifting heavy equipment and the repercussions. Monitors, flippy-screens, sub-monitors, 50” televisions & more How does my dSLR feel about being shelved while I photograph on this smaller mirrorless camera? And my wife’s thoughts on this. So here is a little overview of the areas I want to cover in this review: I have done that for all of these, and my wife is still annoyed. More so now I feel half a year of almost daily shooting has given me enough time to shoot it along side other cameras I have and decide how it stacks up for a street shooter, the family photographer, the traveller, the artist, the professional, and my disinterested wife who is annoyed I spent so long looking at YouTube videos of this bloody thing. Word of these deepwater delicacies continues to spread among seafood devotees who can't get enough of the South's outstanding fresh, local, world-class shellfish-as it should. Don't be shy about asking for Royal Reds in Gulf Coast restaurants that might serve them in season-the menu might not necessarily say so.įew people beyond coastal Alabama knew of Royal Reds just 20 years ago, but today, savvy tourists time their annual Flora-Bama stops and Gulf Shores vacations to coincide with peak harvest. It's best to use frozen Reds the day they thaw. When preparing Reds at home, pay close attention because they cook in about half the time of gray, white, or brown shrimp, despite their large size. Connoisseurs say that the best way to enjoy these robust shrimp is steamed or grilled in their shells, accompanied by nothing more than melted butter (maybe garlic butter), a big stack of napkins, and icy cold beverages. The flavor resembles lobster and bay scallops, showcasing their natural salty flavor and rich, buttery meat. However, because the shrimp are found up to 60 miles offshore, fishermen (the select few licensed to harvest Royal Reds) often flash-freeze their catches immediately, capturing the fresh-off-the-boat flavor and texture in peak form. Royal Red season lasts from late summer to late fall, peaking in September. Get the Ruby Tuesday Ruby Relaxer recipe. Still, sweet spots run along the Gulf from the Florida Panhandle to the Mississippi coast, in deep cool waters between 800 and 1,500 feet down. The recipes for these fruity drinks with rum, call for both dark and light rum varieties. Fishermen must venture wide and far to find the prize shrimp known as Royal Reds, a range stretching from Massachusetts to French Guiana. Royal Reds are huge crimson shrimp that taste like lobster and scallops, making them the crown jewel of Gulf shrimp. Some of these reasons include the pregnant women may feel they are not ready for potential change the pregnancy brings to their bodies they may want to continue being sexually active- which might be hindered by the pregnancy and hate for children among others (Noonan, p. 273), “pregnancy is a wanted and happy event for women, their partners and their families”, it does not mean that thousands of the pregnancies that happen unintentionally have to be terminated As a result, the reasons for abortion are always unsatisfactory. This is true because though the law may state that, according to Noonan (p. Pregnancy being one of them, every woman had to bear the burden of the sex aftermath and ensure that the life she has created is taken care of. Before one engaged in any practice such as sex, she had to be ready for its consequences. Nonetheless, Larch answers this by claiming that he taught him what he knew and there was nothing more to teach and advised him that he has to be of use in every life he got.įurther reasons against performing the practice were that everyone had to be responsible for his or her actions. More importantly, according to his claim, he was just like another orphan in the home and Larch could have chosen anyone else to teach or teach him other skills and not abortion: he never asked for it. As a result, Homer was not ready to perform an illegal operation no matter how much his doctor was convincing him to. Both the physician performing the act and the woman undergoing the abortion was justified for punishment for this action. 72).Īccording to the nation’s law, under every circumstance, abortion was illegal. Therefore, he does not have to perform the abortion practice (Noonan, p. He further tells Larch that it was him who taught him the practice though he never inquired about it. Larch tries to emphasize that he is helping the women who could get help from nowhere else but from them but Homer claims that abortion is illegal. Larch’s conviction on the importance of practicing this exercise, Homer holds his position against the idea supporting his stand with solid reasons whereby he tells his doctor that despite that he will not perform the abortion he has no problem with him doing it. Larch though he refused to take part in his practice of abortion. 273).Īt the hands of Larch, Homer emerged out as a trained gynecologist and as an apprentice in abortion regardless of his lack of high school knowledge. 311), “ his appearance oozes out as a drug addict, lies to the children, deceives his Board of Directors, falsifies medical records, breaks state and federal laws to achieve personal goals, and encourages the practice of medicine without a license.” (Baird & Rosenbaum, p. Through his passionate care of the children, Larch is brought out as a good man though as the film reveals itself, he emerges as a manipulative and rule-bending man. Nonetheless, his commitment to the children is touching and he had an internal joy of having Homer under his care as his surrogate son and his apprentice. In his undertaking of taking care of non-aborted but unwanted children, Larch drifted off to a drug addiction cocoon which besides being a secret abortionist, Larch was addicted to ether. 117) as a “gray, dark and forbidding place-the dumping grounds of unwanted children”, may be considered the first illegal abortionist involved in caring for the uncared children in the world’s history. Wilbur Larch, who owned the orphanage home considered according to Noonan (p. He took full responsibility and his time to teach Homer all medical skills which would make him capable of handling cases regardless of not being certified (The Cider House rules, p. Larch developed an interest in the small boy when he noticed that there was something in the boy that was special. For the second time, Homer returned to the orphanage home. They beat him and the rumor reached Larch who on arrival to the couple’s home found crying and bruised Homer on the bed. In his second adoption, Homer was on his second birthday when he left with a couple who experienced the same problem but invented a strategy of getting sound out of the boy. Homer was therefore back in Cider House and happy for the first time. However, no sooner had the infant rested on Larch’s hand than he let out a happy squeal which startled the parents. They claimed that he never made a single sound, not even a cry. In his first adoption, Homer showed dumbness to his adoptive parents who within a short period of time after adoption knocked back at Cider’s house bringing Homer back. Apart from two instances of adoption, Homer Well spent his entire life in an orphanage under the care of Dr. The Stockfish chess engine is a computer program that will analyze and calculate all the possibilities in a chess position. The rights of one cannot be trampled on by the many, no matter the common benefit. We have a higher calling and a social ethic which is not driven by concensus, but revelation. Enlightened western society has been informed of a transcendant, rights oriented, Judeo Christian ethic which views the right of the individual as divine. Spock’s utilitarian arguement has been expressed forcefully by Lenin, Marx, Stalin, Chairman Mao and recently by the Democrat party. However, Kirk often defies that code and places the needs of the few or the individual above the needs of the many. Spock expresses Vulcan philosophy as, “the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few”. Gabe and Andy are either quite confused or disingenuous.Īs anyone who has watched Star Trek realizes, two competeing phlosophies are expressed through Spock and Kirk. Christian theology is rooted in right and wrong, the holiness of God, not driven by the most common good. Andy says, “Christian common good is not rooted in a social analysis of what is right or wrong but it goes to this deeper question, what leads human beings to flourish”. Then he reverses and dispenses with the concepts of “right and wrong” in favor the fulfillment of the needs of the many. In fact Andy Crouch first seems to be arguing the opposite in this discussion, that the needs of the least, the few, the weak trump the needs of the greatest number of people. Where has he been? To more helpfully define "the common good," This Is Our City executive director Andy Crouch sat down with Gabe Lyons, a parachurch leader who's given a lot of thought to the phrase in recent years. But while the phrase has found a certain cachet among cosmopolitan Christians, thanks in part to NYC pastor Tim Keller's teaching that Christians should be a " counterculture for the common good," its meaning is at times vague: Who is included in the word common? And who gets to decide what is good? The phrase "the common good" is a longstanding fixture of political rhetoric, and it may very well be coming to a church near you. |
